Default Rear Diff 4:56 gears noise

Noise is driving me nuts Hub bearings wasnt it and the transfer case wasnt it, tired of throwing money at it. Put it on jack stands today spun it to 50 ish let off the gas and sure enough its louder then on the road and coming right out of the rear diff or atleast you can feel it there. Its a bad chattering that you can feel pretty good with your hand on the diff cover. I popped the cover off and no sign of of wear, scraping or a single piece of metal in the gear oil. the magnet in the bottom was clean also. Any thoughts???

noise is generally from either the gear itself, or the pinion bearing. what's the story here, is it new, old, what. have you got a warranty on it. is it setup right.

my daughters 4runner rear end got really loud. it'd make a roar on acceleration and a growl on decel. with it up on jacks and drive shaft disconnected, and spining the yoke by hand, i could feel the loose pinion roar.

they were put in 4 years ago by 4wheelparts so what ever warranty there was is gone, its only on decel that you can hear it, as far as i know its setup right. when i took the cover off couldnt feel anything by hand spinning it, no slop of or anything i could see that way, thinking the bearing is a good culprit.

sounds like some of the dogteeth might be either shifting or slipping. try putting some fresh 90weight oil in and go from there

No that one was for the other guy. man to be honest with you if nothing is loose, id consider putting the rearend on jackstands and take the diff cover off again, and try and spin the tires a lil and see if anything is slipping. If you havent already tried that with the diff cover off while you're doing it.

Nothing is slipping, there would have been PLENTY of evidence of that (if it's even possible) when he had the diff cover off, sure sounds like pinion bearings to me..
