Default magnum 5.9 rebuild

Hi new to this forum and have a couple of questions. Lost #8 electrode off spark plug and it wedged into piston and cylinder so now i need to rebuild. I was thinking about basic stock bottom end with new pistons and upgrade the cam for towing. I dont know what cam to go with and what else I should do. this is my first dodge rebiuld and any info would be great. Thanks in advance.

a mild cam would be alright. something for the low end power. you can check out comp cams, se what they got or even grind your own to your specs. need a little more info about your truck to really help you out tho.. (model, year, long/short bed, ect.)

Its a 99 1500 5.9 ext cab 8 foot bed 3 inch lift 295/75/16 tires, high flow cat, flowmaster 40 series, diesel tail pipe, volant cai, just looking to get a little more power for towing, not towing anything huge just small camper or 3 to 4 quads to upstate NY. I was thinking of doing basic stock bottom end rebuild small cam, kegger mod hughes plate and throttle body, clean up the stock heads, with superchip programmer. i am working with about a 2g budget, but only have about a 2 to 3 week time frame.

not to rain on the parade, but hypertech and superchips are designed to work with stock engines. if you change the cam it may/may not need different tuning with an SCT program.

Sent block, heads, crank and rods to machine shop to be checked on tuesday. Got a call today both heads are cracked and blocked needs to be bored 30 over rods may need to be resized, So much for the 2g budget. Not sure what to do junkyard or maybe reman or continue with rebuild?

dammit, dammit, dammit.
does 30 over require new pistons ?

heads are no surprise.
not a real big surprise on block.
at least they didn't tell you the crank was bad too ?

so - what's it going to cost to finish it from here ?
what would a reman cost ?
what would a junkyard motor cost. keep in mind it will have oem weak heads.
how much would a stroker cost. (including injectors, pcm tune, other)

yes 30 over does require pistons but i already planned on new ones. heads cam and intake plate from hughes will cost 1200.00 lower end rebuild around 700.00 without machine work

now that sounds like a plan. you could even throw some roller rockers, a 210x cam (that's the one i've heard about people loving on here a few times but i don't know anything about cams), rear main seal, double roller timing chain and the hughes plenum plate in it before installing it in the truck.
