Was looking into this myself last summer before I bought the V10, as Cyclone mentioned as diesel fuel gets cleaner the older engines are going to be negatively affected. Are you old enough to remember folks having to use lead additives when they fueled up?

I can't or can say stall away from the 6.7, But the general drift is all the emissons stuff is robbing power and proving to be a head ache for modding out the 6.7, I have also observed thiers the opion that the 6.7 is not suited for light use, ie, run the crap out of the 6.7 and it will run fine, drive it short distances and it runs like a dogs breakfist.

Iv see people still add lead to fuel. not sure the basis behind it but they used them for their tractors and sandrail's

if you get a newer vp pump on the 24valve i would go with that if not it will cost you 1200 to 1500 for a new one, you can get more power out of a 24 but if your not towing all that much why do you need a diesel in the first place? unless if your driving long distances alot

Unleaded fuel in an engine designed for leaded fuel will destroy valve seats and guides. The lead acted as a lubricant. The old tractors (gas I assume) would require the leaded gas and sandrails often use VW beetle engines and they would have required leaded fuel.

Yeah who would want a diesel that get 20+ mpg with a ton of power when you could have a gutless 360ci gas and get 13 mpg?

if you get a good lift pump then the vp44 will be alot less likely to give you any trouble the 24 valve is a good engine

yea can get 20+ but your paying more for fuel, unless if your on the highway all the time getting 25-26 you really dont gain that much, my friend has a 99 cummins and he gets 20 in the city, i get 10 in the city, we roughly pay the same for fuel at the end of the week, and as for the lift pump thats true but how many truck for sale have a good lift pump on them? manybe 2 or 3 out of 10
