i would go 12V, it is still a mechanical engine ie no computer controls. I had one and loved it. I got approx 28 mpg on the hwy. You can get more power out of them by buying and installing a cam plate for the injection pump as well as a new vaccuum actuator for the waste dump on the turbo. Banks sells the kit.

With lower sulfer in diesel flue and push for cleaner burning flue, I don't know how well the older 12 ctd will run on today's and future diesel flue, the new 6.7 has smog smog smog gadgets all over the place, but I found in my last test drive, the 6.7 has some guts.

Most will say the 5.9 is the only way to go, I also admit I don't know much abought CTD

Towing a boat occasionally, maybe a car every so often. Nothing too drastic

depends what u want to do with it and how much u wanna spend. the 12 v u can make a few pump adjustment and gain a huge power difference.

24v for a noticeable power gain u need a box and injectors, however if u don't mind being the slowpoke of the road it will pull anything, and have decant mpg

o and a side note STAY AWAY FROM TH 6.7 CUMMINS

I like the idea of easy tuning and huge power gains is there any visualy way of telling the 12v from the 24v ?

And the easier to work on the better, it looks as if i may have to have one shipped over here as there isnt many around over this way.......

just b careful on the 5 speeds (NV4500 transmission) it has a jam nut on the 5th gear that works its way loose and can fall into the gears causing a major failure of the transmission.

There is a cummins section you might want to go over there and ask, I think 98.5 they went to the 24v
