I am mechanically inclined, but the fuel system pressure release worries me. What process have you guys done to do this?

 

Nothing, just let it sit overnight before you tear into it. A cheap plastic tool from Autozone or wherever will disconnect it at the fuel rail along with a rag to soak up any spillage. wear eye protection anyway.

And disconnect the negative battery cable first , before you do anything else.

 

1. bleed the pressure from your feul rail. there is a beeder valve on the right side. it works just like a tire valve stem.
2. yes i bought all parts from hughes. it will recomend other parts when ur on the plenum page.
3. if there is oil in there its bad. i didnt know how much oil i had in mine till i pulled it off of my intake i had oil pooled in my intake when it was upside down on the bench and my plenum pan was nothing but oil.

hopefully all continues to go well with mine.
anybody doing it should just get a hanes manual or a chilton it will help out a lot. oh and you dont have to pull the spark plugs and wires like the book will tell you to.

The only that concerned me was when I read this in the repair manual: "(7) Perform the Fuel System Pressure release procedure
(Refer to 14 - FUEL SYSTEM/FUEL DELIVERY

Im getting ready to do my plenum next week. How big is the plenum plate approx L" x W"
I can get some aluminum from work. a pc 24" x 12.5" will cost me $2.00 Will that be big enough to make my own plate?

 

Just get a tape and measure how big the intake is. You are aware it should be 1/4" thick and of a certain grade.

 

i think he wants to get a measurement before he takes it apart, to see if the plate he has access is going to be big enough.

i'm guessing its going to be about 16 x 9. anybody got a spare intake or original belly pan they can measure for him ?

 

Just measure between the valve covers across the front and to the back.

 

You are correct,I want to make sure what I have available will be big enough before I even begin. If nothing else I will measure the intake and use that. If not big enough I will buy the Hughes kit.
