Default "squeeking" not the right word

Hi. I'm a recent owner of a '96 Ram 1500 4x4 with the 5.9L. Whenever I accelerate, I get a strange squeeking kind of noise from what sounds like the dashboard area around the middle or maybe just off to the passenger side. I can best describe the sound as similar to liquid being squirted through a tight opening, or maybe styrofoam rubbing against itself. The sound stops completely when I'm not accelerating. Anyone have any ideas what this might be and how I can fix it?

Thanks.

Default RE: "squeeking" noise from dash

Take off dash trim by speed-o-meter and have your friend drive your truck. Find a nice road where he wont mind you poking and proding around. My old ranger had a squeek and I did the high tech thing. I took my fist and pounded on the dash till it stopped while my buddy drove. It took a few mins but I found it...

I guess I picked the wrong word when I said "squeeking." This is definitely NOT just your typical dash squeek caused by vibrations or loose bolts. The noise is not caused by vibrations or bumps, but is physically or mechanically linked to acceleration. It is more of a squirting noise, and it must be related to vacuum, coolant, a/c or something else that moves or changes with engine speed. Get on the gas, and I get the weird noise. All other times, no noise.

Do you have a aftermarket stereo. Alot of times when you add amps if you don't wire thigns correctly you could get engine wine. You will here it most when you accelerate.

I have the same thing going on in my truck, I haven't torn apart the dash yet but I think it has something to do with the odometer or trip at least thats where it seems to be coming from.

I don't mean to be a smartass, but do either one of you guys have a cold air intake. I put one on my truck and hear it sucking air everytime I accelerate but stops once cruising. Just a guess. Let me know if thats the problem. Kinda curious.

i know the squirting noise you speak of. i have the same problem myself right now. just started a couple months ago. it definatley is not squeaky dash, or air intake, or anything like that. no one ive had hear it has not been able to come up with a solution. best take so far is cooling (my coolant levels are perfect), maybe a loose bearing. it really sounds like its coming from one of the vents on the dash near the windshield, but it kind of doesnt.

it also appears that the noise stope after about 5 minutes of driving. i only really notice it right after i start the truck when i rev it slightly.

Have ya'll considered that it could be a vacuum leak on the vent system. Remember that the opening and closing of vents inside the truck is controlled by vacuum doors and if you have somehow punctured one of those hoses with even a small hole then you would hear a noise when accelerating due to the fact that the engine changes it's vacuum pressure under acceleration. Just a thought.
