i used the gasket that came with the hughes, with no RTV. i checked it yesterday (its been 5K now since i did the fix), and the flashlight was shining on the plate. and my manifold is new so its very easy to tell f theres oil, and theres not one drop.

So Why no RTV? wouldn't that just help seal everything up? Permatex is fuel resistant.

I know Hughes instructions say dont use RTV on the plenum gasket, but I was just checkin since I will use the fel-pro.

Im getting ready to go change my fuel pump. Not sure if I will lift the bed or drop the tank. Im a little over 1/4 tank, so I might just take 2 5 gal gas cans and syphon 10 gal out. That should put me around empty I would assume? I have to gather up tools and the air compressor and take off to a buddies garage since I cant walk around my truck when its in my garage due to space. Plus my buddies garage is heated I dropped the tank in my Jeep wrangler, so Im pretty sure it would be around the same concept in the truck. I will update and let you guys know how it went. I will take pics.

Thanks guys!

So, I got the pump installed and it was a PITA. I couldnt get the gas to syphon out, so I dropped the tank with ~10 gal, which wasnt too bad. I just laid the tank on top of me while a buddy unhooked everything. Took the old pump out, and found a green ball floating in the tank...is this the check ball that fails, or what is it?? Put the tank back in empty (I recommend an empty tank to anyone who does this!). Hardest part was feeling my way on top of the tank to hook up the lines. Took a couple pics, one is of the ball I found in the tank, second is me putting the ring back on the new pump.

I'd say the ball goes in the filler neck or the overflow line.

Hmmm...that would make sense...I did stick a hose down the filler tube to syphon out the gas. Does anyone know if I could just stick it back in there?? Whats the purpose of it? I just filled up today with no problem...
