Default Driver and passenger side mirrors

Hey there folks,

My driver and passenger side power/heated mirrors on my 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 quad cab 4x4 have finally died (heat wise)… went to the dealer and they wanted $535.00 each to replace… walked over to their parts department and they are asking for $205.00 for the drivers side and $217.00 for the passenger side… took the part numbers (55076488AG and 55076489AG) to Google and found them for $160.00 for the drivers side and $175.00 for the passenger side, but found a brand called Kool Vue on DiscountAutoMirrors.com that claims to be a direct OE replacement piece for $27.00 each… a little leery of this (maybe just me being paranoid)… my question is what route should I go for replacement mirrors that is most economical, but works like the OE? Thanks.

Mike

I have Kool Vue's on mine that I got from ThePartsBin.com . Ofcourse mine are not heated, but they are good mirrors and appear to be OEM quality. Just plug and play.

Another member here has these and says they are close to factory quality. Great bargain, too.

i went to the dealer and bought a new mirror (just the heated glass) for 30$ and put it in myself. your defrost lines on the glass itself may have just crapped out on you if it isn't a fuse.
the glass has a ring of plastic clips in the center and a wire that plugs into a little tab on the back of it. i moved the mirror all the way out and down and used a skinny metal hook to unclip about half of the clips on the old one and just pushed the new one on until it snapped in place.

most economical - just replace the glass
works like oe - it is oe

Default Update

Went to Advanced Auto and found some that look identical to the ones presently on the truck (at least on the picture)... powered and heated for around $100.00... ordered them... will let you know what they are like when I get them in - meaning how the quality is...

I need some help guys! I have a 2000 Dodge Ram Quad Cab with a few problems. The most important one is the cracked driver side mirror. I think I can just replace the glass without spending a lot of money, right? But I have NO idea where to go to get it. I checked ebay and I don't trust myself to pick the right one. Plus I measured 8.75" diagonal and I didn't see any.

Other problems: Same thing on right side mirror but tolerable. And more annoying: neither rear doors unlatch to open. Any tips? Thanks.

Go to the dealership for replacement glass. You just pop the old one off after detaching a few clips on the back side of it then snap the new one on.

rockauto and other places have the glass for under $20 each.
if anyone knows dealer pricing, post that for comparison.

one of mine is cracked too.
question about installation - do you remove the entire mirror from the truck to get at the clips?
