97 1500 tranny
I had this same issue a while ago with my 97 2500, IIRC there may be a difference in the main harness connector such as the # of wires maybe? Also the speedo changed to electronic later but you should be able to retrofit your sender? Other than that the internals are very similar. As a matter of fact when I bought my oil pump the box showed 1961 and up 727!! Take a pic of yours disconnected and take that to the wrecker just to make sure.
i know the 99s had a different speed sensor, that why id like toknow if the 98s did as well, and i am not taking apart anything as i still need to use the truck to get the new tranny( iyt runs just fine is 1-3 just no OD)
Not sure why you would want to swap years...
If my transmission was going out I would look into getting a new one with a core deposit. I can't think of any place that sells a 46RE rebuild kit; but I know Jasper transmissions are the best to deal with when it comes to buying one.
If you should go the route of buying a used one however, inspect it well. Take it to a Mopar-specialty shop and have them give it a good once over. From there, look into finding a good shift kit while the transmission is down.
For extra insurance you could add a Mag-Hytec deep transmission pan, flush everything out and refill with Royal Purple or another synthetic fluid.
That is, if you have the money of course. I know in this economy its often hard to come by the spare cash to properly build a transmission and sometimes you just have to make do with what you can. But doing the labor yourself will save a lot of money and hopefully you can put some of that into extending/preserving the life of your transmission.
Just remember to take it slow and double check everything. The 46REs are famous for exploding for the slightest thing so don't screw it up and forget something.
If you need anything else, just drop by.

ive told you why i need to swap years, they dont have anymore 97s here, so a 97 transmission is out of the question. and i cant just go and buy another tranny cause the one they sold me was bad and they will exchange it. ive already dumped enough money into it so all that stuff is outta the question
