I'd say 2" for duals as well. Most of the single kits are 2 1/4 or maybe 2 1/2.

I am going to assume you need to pass inspection as the reason for bothering with cats.

That being said, you could do a couple of step-ups. IE 2" into an x-pipe near the stock cat location then to the back of the cab, 2 1/4 to the axle, then 2 1/2 over the axle to the back, and possibly some tips... I`ve done a couple that way and they sound great, completely unique, you get a deep throaty rap when you stand on it and it just seems to snarl while cruising in town. Granted there were no mufflers involved. I wish I knew where one of those trucks ended up, the owners have all sold them and I don`t have any video or even sound clips

EDIT: Forgot to mention a 45* exit on the pipes with the leading edge of the pipe sticking out slightly farther than the rest will help to scavenge the exhaust out of the bigger pipes...

The smallest I would do on pipe size would be 2 1/4 I am running 2 1/2 with no cat and it performs good couldnt imagine going back down to a 2

for a 250(ish) hp engine 2" is more than enough. Anything bigger than that for at least the first couple of feet will take away from low end torque...

when i got a estimate for true duals with thrush turbo mufflers it was 200 with 2 1/4 pipe all the way without tips or cats at a local muffler shop but probably would vary with the company you use to run the exhaust
