Default Please Help 5speed tranny wont shift!!

2001 5.2 standard trans wont **** in 1st or secon gear. The rest of the gears work fine. How big of a problem is this going to be? This is my only means of transportation/ work. please help

Just based off that description, it sounds like a problem with the 1-2 shift rail/fork assembly. Sorry to say it but you're going to need a new transmission or find someone to rebuild yours.

Just out of curiosity, how many miles are on it and what have you been using for fluid changes? Also, can you force it into gear if you try to slam it?

Default 182,000 miles

i cans move the stick through the gears no problem. just 1st and second dont work.

i can move the shifter through all the gears including 1st and second, but even though the shifter is in 1st the truck is still in nuetral. the same with second. the truck only engages in third 4th 5t and reverse

dont feel bad my tranny is broke too lol, mine died yesterday morning on my way to work!!

Ok, that basically confirms what I said before... the fork/rail/coller assembly for first and second gear is bad. There's no way to tell exactly whats wrong with it until you split the case, but the nv3500 is a bear to tear down, so good luck! I honestly think you'd be better off finding another one than trying to get yours rebuilt.

But I ask again... how many miles are on it and what fluid did you use when you changed it?
