Default Steering Gear Replacement

I have recently purchased a 1998 Dodge Ram 2500 4X4 360ci with about 108th. It has horrible steering and I replaced the track bar(some improvement) and inspected the whole front end. I found that when centered the steering gear has a lot of free play-10:00-2:00. The sway bar links need replacement but didnt think it would correct problem. I did adjust the over the center screw but dosent feel normal (may have been done already),kinda tight. My question is has anyone replaced their steering gear if so what brand and are you happy with it? I have checked out some re-manufacturd gears at the big box parts stores. Seems to me they are just putting in new seals and everything else is original.

I replaced mine a couple months back with a gear box from the junk yard. It was off another 2500 v10. pad about $140 for it and it works fine, as well as being guaranteed for 6 months. I know buying a new box will run you alot of $. I had to calibrate mine on a bench before I put it in. I don't know if they would calibrate a brand/ new remanufactured one at the factory or not, definitely a good question to ask whoever you buy from.
