Default Load Range

Uh...this might be a stupid question but I'm gonna ask anyway. The tires I'm buying next week only have load range e in 265 75 16's. Is there any negative effects going from a c to an e?

actually E is a much heavier capacity tire than C or D. No negative effects.
Let me look for a chart.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tirete....jsp?techid=55

Load Range Ply Rating Load Pressure (psi)
B 4 35
C 6 50
D 8 65
E 10 80
F 12 95

weight capacity wise, when properly inflated, load per tire is something like this. (more or less).
the difference is the # of plies rating, and sidewall strength.

C - 1700 @50
D - 1900 @65
E - 2200 @80

I would say yes there is a negative effect, the ride quality will be a bit different, but nothing severe.

Thanks dhvaughan. I don't think I'll be too concerned with ride quality. It already rides like a tank anyway and I can't see it getting much worse haha. To bad they only make these tires in the E range.

set your air pressure to a reasonable level. if your just driving around on the street, 35-40 is fine. if you're hauling heavy loads, you can air up to 50-60-70. but BEWARE, the front end gets very skatey at high pressures and unloaded condition.

The only Real negative effect I've had with 10 ply is the price....
I'm stepping down with the next set cause I don't do much hauling anymore..
What kind are you getting?

I was gonna get the general grabber at's but I might reconsider. I do not need 10 ply tires, I just don't haul that much anymore. The grabbers were $140ish. I didn't think that was too bad an asking price so I think I'm gonna do a little more shopping around for tires in that price range.

you should check out the treadwright thread they're running between $75-$104 each and i think they have a tread pattern like the grabbers
