Default Step Bumper Receiver Installation

I jus picked up a Reese step bumper hitch but the 94 dodge already has something under the bumper, seems that it came stock on it. It looks like that if I take that stock tow piece off then the Reese hitch will sit up in there too far for the ball hitch to slide into it. There is no way around not takin it off thou in order to get the bolts thru the Reese, has anyone ever installed one of these bumper receivers on a step bumper? Did you jus hack off the extra plastic that hangs down over the step part of the bumper? Thanks in advance fellas

Why would you get rid of the stock Class IV reciever rated at 10,000lbs to put a chincy bumper mount reciever. The stock bumper says right on it that it will handle 5000lbs. The one you want to bolt on handles less than that!

You said in your first post that there is a stock tow piece under the rear bumper. Is this correct?

yeah, there is something under the bumper that goes all the way across and mounts to the frame, it had a reese hitch on it when i bought it but i lost it drivin down the road, only thing left of it are the 2 peices mounted to the frame on the sides of the spare tire, the peice that is already under the bumper i guess was put there for the 5000lb capacity marked on the bumper, i'll either get pics of under the truck tomorrow or jus start tarin stuff off of it lol i jus know that if i put the ball in the bumper it self then the tongue of the trailer will be too high
