Grinding sound from fron drivers side when in 4 wheel drive

I have a grinding sound from fron drivers side wheel when in 4 wheel drive. U-joints are tight (just replaced about a year ago). A buddy of mine said it was the front 4x4 hub. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Jack that wheel up and spin the tire while listening to it, then grab it at 12 and 6 and push/pull on it to see if it moves in and out.

does it hop at all when in 2wd turning? Mine didnt have a grinding noise, but more of a swishing noise, and it was the Wheel bearing.

no hopping or anything when in 2wd. Only the grinding sound like metal to metal from the drivers side front when in 4wd.

sure it's not your transfer case grinding ? it's on the driver's side so it could possibly sound like it's coming from the tires.

when was the last time you did a flush and fluid on your TC
