Default code P0455

I've got a 2001 Ram 1500 with a code P0455( EVAP Leak). My question is whyat is it and where do I need to look? Also, where can I find a option list per my serial#?

It sounds like the EVAP canister (big black thing) mounted on the drivers side frame rail. To get the option list go to the dealer with your vin#.

i started with a P0442 (minor leak) and after replacing the gas cap now have a P0455 (major leak).

your problem is a leak somewhere in the evap system. it could be gas cap, vac line, canister, or purge solenoid on passenger side inner fender.

an interesting test that i did was to fill up the gas tank, reset the pcm to turn off the CEL code, and then put the gas cap inside a quart zip lock plastic bag, and then gently replace the gas cap being careful not to tear the plastic. this seals the tank and prevents a gas cap leak. my CEL was coming on with a 2-3 days of a reset, but with the bag in place, i went through 2 or 3 tanks of gas with no reoccurance. that led me to believe it was just the gas cap. so i replaced it and my 442 changed to a 445. damn. i think i just got a bad autozone cap. it doesn't feel tight.

I wouldn't trust auto zone gas caps they suck specially the red ones with the black button.
I do emissions here and when people bring those caps here they are an automatic fail

the best way to find a evap leak is with a smoke test

check your hoses first to see if there are any cracks or lose hoses.
