Possible rear end and obvious valve cover leaks??? Pics inside
Super newb here....been seeing an accumulation of oil on my trucks rear no drips or visible fluid just a stain pepboys told me its a slight leak they said they use a gasket to repair it when they swap out the fluid. On the other hand Dodge dealer hear in socal said that they use rvt sealant to seal it after an oil swap cause gaskets will leak. Also my valve covers are super filthy with oily crud that runs down around the heads near the spark plugs i'm assuming that the valve cover gaskets need replacing (any advice on brand Felpro?) aslo im assuming the little valve on top of the passenger side valve cover not sure what its called needs to be replaced. truck does not burn excessive oil so i'm keeping my fingers crossed the the plenum is not blown yet, any advice and maybe a shop referal in So. Calif. would be much appreciated thanks.
now the pics waiting to do and engine steam til after some maintnence its a mess from the water pump going out on the previous owner

Ah, I have had those gaskets on the pumpkin fail before too. Quite a nusiance really. That's why I use RTV anytime I take the cover off. It may make the job a pain in the *** in terms of removal, but when you do it right, you wont have a leak.
The valve covers are prone to loosening up over time, and I'm pretty sure that's the same problem here. You might as well go ahead and take them off and clean them up, add a new gasket and then torque them back down in spec with the TSB on it.
Both jobs are easy shade tree do it your self projects for a Saturday if you have the tools laying around..
As a side note, I'm glad to see that you are back to posting on DF again. Even if you only stick around when you got a problem.

Not sure now that you mention it, unless the previous owner had to do the heads when the water pump let go on him........
