Default Convince me it is the plenum.....Please...

The only code at all my truck throws is a misfire on cylinder 8. I changed all the plugs and the no. 8 wire. I have yet to change all the wires or the cap and rotor, looks like a job. Glancing down the tb as much as i could see, yes it did look oily, but the motor has 235k on it. I would think that if it was out i would have more issues than just that one cylinder misfire.

So those of you that think it is the plenum. Please explain why.

Those of you who don't, tell me how to fix the misfire. Other than the wires and cap and rotor it would have to be the injector on no. 8 right?? Thanks!

oil saturates the catalyst material in the cat and plugs it up. when you get the rpms going, all that pressure has to go somewhere and that is the closest cylinder to the cat (#8). So instead of that cylinder getting a shot of fresh gas and air, it's getting a shot of burnt exhaust gasses and fuel.

Default that is a good explanation sheriff

thank you. But i had my cat cut open and it has already been gutted. it is clean as a whistle. Hollow inside just like straight pipe. but i do have horrible exhaust fumes when standing outside of the truck, but not inside the cab. truck has a turndown pipe that cuts off right behind the cab.

Do they smell really bad? Or are there just a lot of them?

Holy oil!

Your plenum is blown, no doubt about it. That should be bare metal down there.

Smile That is what i was afraid of after uploading the pics

So my question now is this guys. I know the hughes kit is the best. But I'm a poor boy. How many miles can I expect to get out of a stock replacement? I would really like to go the cheapest route until I get the money to do the airgap intake kit from hughes. If this truck got 235k out of the first one, it leads me to believe the stock can't be all that bad.???
