4x4 help plz
i just bought my first Ram, im 16, and im very satisfied with it.
After i bought it the guy said the 4x4 worked i took his word for it mainly because i got it really cheap.
anyway, the 4x4 turn out not to work things i have done:
Replaced the actuater on the front axle that locks the front wheels together
Replaced the vacuum switch on top of the transfer case
Checked the lines between the vacuum switch and the actuater
also the light on the dash does not come on
there is vacuum at the actuater that is on the axle and it does alternate when u switch between 2 wheel and 4 wheel but is somewhat weak.
the front drive shaft does turn and engages without grinding
i begging for help here i cannot live with out 4 wheel drive anything u can help with is much needed ty all

by engaging i ment the transfer case begins to turn the front drive shaft i checked by puting it into 4 wheel and had my step dad watch the shaft as i moved the truck
i also put the entire truck on jack stands and put it into 4 wheel so i could check the drive shaft and the wheels as u suggested drive shaft still turns but the wheels still do not lock

put it in 4x4 high, put it in drive and put the parking brake on.. Climb under the truck and see if you can manually spin the front driveshaft by hand. If you can then you have an issue with your transfercase but if you cant then it's going to be something with the front axle

checked alrdy i cannot hand spin the drive shaft when in 4x4
is it possible that a vac leak between the vac switch on the transfer case and the moter could cause it not to lock

Eh, possibly but doubtful because if it was a vacume issue you wouldnt be able to shift it period, the fact you cant spin the front driveshaft by hand when it's in drive then that means the transfercase is doing it's job it's something to do with the front end.
ok well ill start with checking the vac pressure i believe that is prob it because when i checked for the vac alternating between the tubes it was pretty weak any ideas what would cause this?
