4wd took a crap while plowing.
First my 4wd drive has always been slow to engage and I have replaced all vac lines and the motor and no luck. On saturday i was out plowing i was running between accounts and flipped the truck back into 2wd as the roads were not all that slick and it was about a 4 mile drive to my next account. I pulled in flipped the truck into 4wd and it never engaged. No noise no binding no nothing. the front shaft was tight and had tenstion on it but only the rear tires were spinning. i procceded to get stuck and had to have the neighbors 1/2 ton ram come yank me out on to dry pavement. I was overly embarssed as the account was my tech lab teacher in school. The truck is a 96 3/4 ton only has 50K on it.
I am to the point now were i want to do a free spin hub converstion on the truck so I KNOW i will not have an issue again. And I dont feel like paying almost $700 for unit bearsing in 20k(already did once).
Anyone running the EMS or Dynatrac kit on there truck?
I am looking at the EMS 35 spline HD kit as i sled pull my truck too in the summer and my plow is heavy and i want the extra strength.
Thanks

I have read about the posi-lock and im sure it works great. But my reason for wanting to switch to hubs is the servicable bearing. I thought about getting a posi-lock when i first bought the truck but now having already replaced the unit bearings once> I dont feel like spending that kind of money 3 or 4 more times over the like of my truck.
See i have always been a big fan of the manual locking hubs, i like knowing that i manually put it into 4x4 and theres nothing in between me and the front axle that would cause it not to lock. they'er usually way more reliable than vacume driven systems. But they do have a drawback, if you're stuck in an area that you really dont want to get dirty, You dont have a choice in the matter.
My 87 bronco II was a little tank, had manual locking hubs and i swear i could go places with that truck that even the 3/4 ton's couldnt fallow me.

i had the manual hubs on my 93 Nissan, one of them i have to take a screwdriver, and a hammer, and bang t to open/close lol, but hey it engaged/disengaged perfect every time. I would prefer to have manual hubs on my Ram as well, but its just too much work, when the posi-Lok can get the job done.
