Well changed out the MC, bled the brakes...nothing changed.

When we pump the brakes the brake booster swells up about a 1/4 of an inch. Looks like a pumping heart. Are they known to get weak and do that?

The line that connects to the large resivor in the MC has a lot less pressure than the one with the small resivor. When you pump the brakes theres a loud slushy noise in the big resivor, but when you bleed there's no air just fluid that comes out. Tried soapy water on all the fittings and couldn't see any air coming in or out.

did you bench bleed the MC first? how long did you bleed the brakes for? Did you bleed them according to the Haynes manual?

 

We bled the MC first, and we bled them for 40 minutes or so. It was dark and getting cold, we are going to try bleeding them again.

 

If the brakes sometimes feel like thy are jamming up, especially in reverse, check your rear brakes. Could be the rear hardware is bad and letting a shoe move around and jam in the drum. As far as the other thing, master cylinder or possibly the vacuum booster or the line for it has a leak.

 

As far as bleeding them, the best way is to use a vacuum bleeder. If you use one of these it makes it easier than a two person bleed. The tool is around $100 but makes it so easy to do. This way you can actually replace ALL the brake fluid. just keep adding it until the new fluid shows up from where you are bleeding it from. Remember to use the proper sequence in bleeding the system if you have abs or rwal and fwal.

 

Im sure they got it fixed cause they havent been back since.

Thats usually how the newbies work, come in ask for help we help them fix it an they never come back.

For what it's worth, if bleeding didnt fix it the first time theres a loose line some where or their brake booster is shot.

 

Would that year of truck have ABS? I have heard there is a very specific procedure to follow in ABS equipped trucks.

It does have a ABS.

We found out that the passenger side wheel bearing had gone out. We got that fixed and everything works great.

Was it the front or rear bearing?

 

Gotta be the front cause i dont see the rear causing a problem.
