Is there anything I should look out for. Trying to help out my son. If this was a chevy I would know the answer..... So any insight is much appreciated. Thanks all.
The 360 from the 1979 is an LA and the V8's in the second gens are Magnums. The external balance is different. The LA does not have the bosses for the magnum motor mounts. The LA heads will not accept the Kegger intake to run EFI.
What exactly are you trying to do your post is vague.
Yes it is vague sorry. Swap a 1979 motor into a 1997 Ram 1500. I Think Gerehead8 might of answered the most important parts. So what year engine would work. Thanks for the response.

No, the 1979 motor will not work. A motor from 1996-2003 will work.
If you use the intake and flexplate you can use magnums from 92-95 also. I would suggest using basically everything from the 96 and and putting it on the short block of these older motors because they are OBD 1 while your 96 is OBD 2. It would just prevent and sensor problems.
