What tranny is in my Ram?
Lost reverse the other day and from what I read on here sounds like it is time for a rebuild or replacement. The truck is a 2000 2500 4x4 360. Has a build date of 9/99. I have an add on local Craigslist for another tranny and would like to figure out what I can use. Is it the 46re or 46rh in my truck? I read on here that they cannot be interchanged due to difference in valve body controls. Also when did they change from the 46rh to the 46re? I have a few leads on other trannys but they are out of older (94,97) half ton 2wd trucks, not sure if those would work. One of the sellers said if it was a 2wd tranny you just had to bolt something else to the end to hook up to the transfer case? Some help would be appreciated, thank you.
YOu have a 46RE, a 46RH from a 1996-older truck will not work.
2WD transmission case is different. You would have to completely disassemble the transmission(s) and interchange the parts.
My $0.02, get it re-built or re-build it yourself.
