Default 1998 Ram 3500 Heat Problem

Hey y'all. I'm new to the forum so hopefully this hasn't already been answered.....

I have a 1998(.5) Ram 3500 Dually, long bed single cab. The air will only blow out the defroster. Anybody have any ideas on what might be wrong and how to fix it? Also, I haven't had the truck long and I realized after I bought it that when I turn the **** to "cold", it seems like only ambient air comes through. How can I tell if it has ac and it's broken or if it just doesn't have it?

Thanks.

Welcome to DF, now you're going to get alot of different answers to this question. OK first question i have for you is, do the vents change from defrost to panel while under acceleration. Such as going up a hill or anything in that nature, if it doesnt then it could just very well be that your position switch is bad. but if the vent do change then use our search feature in the forum and search for " Wild vents " and you will get a ****ton of thread's about it and how to fix it. Our vents are vacume controled and if the vacume line behind the dash is damaged or worked it self loose it will screw some stuff up. Mine does it and i havent fixed it yet nore do i really plan on it because i dont wanna take my dash out to get to it.

As far as your AC goes then i would take it into a shop that does AC work and have them check the charge on your system. Could just need more freon

For the defroster part, you have a vacuum leak. Most times, one or two check valves need to be replaced. Click Here and here for more info. It could also be broken or unplugged vacuum line.

For the low heat; it could either be a clogged heater core/heater core hose; or a broken blend door.
