Hey guys,I need help dodge 3500 v 10 4x4
I am thinking about buying a 01 dodge 3500 ex cab 4x4,v10 auto,3.55 gears,I would really like to bump up the gas milage,I know you can buy that little chip/box that has two wires that you wire in and its supose to help preformance and fuel but what else?
I am thinking about buying it real soon and would like to know what some have done to help out on the fuel!
would a diffrent air filter system help?
diffrent exhaust?
headers?
I dont need any more power, come on its a v 10,but I would like to see if anything could be done to help out on the fuel, and I know if I want good fuel milage buy a cummins, trust me I would but I havent found any cummins 4x4 ex cab trucks around with 53,xxx miles for $9995.
so lets keep to the idea of the main issue!
Thanks in advance.I need some good ideas!

Boy, did you buy the wrong truck. If you think that little black box is going to do anything other than waste your money, then you're in for a shock. I have a V10 and the best you can hope for is the same 9-11mpg I get, maybe a .5 more since you have 3.55 gears. Anyone that tells you that they get significantly better is a flat out liar. I have the K&N, run nothing but synthetics everywhere and drive like an old lady and I can still count on that 9-11 whether I'm towing or not. These V10s were built for one thing and one thing only: towing. Plain and simple, mpg was not a consideration. If it is for you, sell the thing right now because you will never be happy with the mpg no matter how much you do/spend on it. The good thing is that the V8 4Xs don't get a whole lot better mpg, but they are way down on power in comparison.
Nobody buys a truck like that thinking about getting good mileage. In order to keep it up around 10mpg keep correct pressure in the tires, keep it tuned up, drive like you have a brain. I can get 11.5 on the highway driving like a grandma, and I only have a 3/4 ton. Guessing I get 8 or 9 in city driving. Maybe less. Go ****** a couple of Fords out of the ditch and you will feel better about your mpg.

i was like you i wanted a cummins but i couldn't find one for the price that i could afford, then i came acrossed this 01 Ram V10 4x4 ext. cab long bed, for $5000 my nuts almost exploded from the excitement of owning a power house and yeah its gets crappy gas mileage but i didn't buy it for economy, i bought it because it was a V10 and i very pleased with it, i am waiting for my tax return so i can get hemifever programmer to unleash this massive monster from captivity other than that i would have liked a 5 or 6spd instead of the auto but thats just me.
ok,I`m not looking for 20 mpg,I just figured that there was something aftermarket out there that could help out a mpg or two.
I already own a 95 3500 4x4 ex cab,4.10 gears, was just hoping that one with 3.55`s would get a little better milage amd a little work would bring it up a little more,I`m not looking to get 20 mpg I just want to get it up a little better than what it is!
my 95 has over 200,xxx and I get around 10 to 12 mpg and this one I`m looking at he says he gets about 13.
anyways I guess noone has had any luck or tried anything to see if they could better it.

Oh, we've tried. There's just not a lot you can do to a 488ci engine to make it sip gas more reasonably. I have a K&N CAI, I run synthetics, my engine is tuned perfectly, I drive like a grandma, and I still can't get better than 9-11 out of her. City driving is the real problem. When I drive 95% mhighway I can get slightly over 11, but as soon as I get off the freeway or have to idle in traffic, down it goes. If that guy isn't lying and it does get 13mpg, then that's as good as you can expect for such a large engine. No amount of money you throw at it in upgrades is going to be cost effective.

iv got plenty of enough lowend pulling power. i just aint got **** for off the line.
