Default Suspension questions

i have a '96 half ton 4x4 that is in need of some bigger tires lol, it's got the stock 245/75's on it, and i'm lookin to go to 285/75's..will i be okay with that???? i don't wanna rub too bad, i can pound the inner fenders a little if i have to lol

okay my next question is this...i had an '02 dodge diesel 4x4, and i had 35's on it no problem at all..completely 100% stock,

i can see there is NO WAY i can fit 35's with this '96 half ton..so is it possible to just throw the 3/4 ton suspension on it? or would it ride WAYY too rough, i haul cars and a tractor every now and then, and an 18ft bass boat every weekend basically, and even with just the bassboat i'm almost on the bumpstops in the rear and that has GOT to stop.

i also heard that the "sport" rams had a bigger suspension on them, and they can run 35's stock...if this is true would i simply be able to just swap out the suspension and call it good?

thanks for the help guys!

if you're sitting on stock height you're going to need a min of a 3inch lift to clear 33's

I cleared 285/75/R16's sitting at stock height but they rubbed badly. I put on a 2" leveling kit and I have no problems.

to fit 35's your 02 had to have something in it.... no dodge right now, not even the power wagon can fit 35's and not rub....

to fit those 285s ( 33's) you will need a level kit to deal with the rubing and should be fine

the sports sit a little higher, but the off road editions had more suspention and they will fit 33's easy...

doing a full 3/4 ton suspention swap to yours you should just put a lift on yours, go with skyjacker and they give you all new rear springs and it will still ride good and deal with the maxed suspention when towing

if your lookin for a "non functional" lift then do what i did to my 99 sport......i took coils from a 2005 cummins 3500. gained 4.5 inches up front then removed my rear 3" blocks and swapped to 6" blocks. she is up now roughly 4 inches and clears my 35's no problem

well thats one way of doing it, or just keep your rear suspention stock and do a shackle flip...

but those 4.5" of lift, probably rides stiff as hell... and almost zero flex...

believe it or not its not too rough of a ride. there is still some flex but i also dont go out articulating on snow banks to see. lol. she is a show truck prety much, i dont take her out wheeling, otherwise i wouldnt have lifted it the way i did. total lift only cost me a hundred bucks. if it was a wheeling machine i would have spent the money and bought a kit with sway bar drop brakets, adjustable trac bar, long arm kit, drop pitman arm, ect ect ect, you know the usuals.

yea, trust me.. i know what it takes to properly lift one of these things... just look at my sig, thats everything you could want for a proper lift, and it looks great for show too...

the long arms make it look sick... 48" long arms travel to almost the end of my doors... the red springs,,, oh god, my baby is nice lol

oh and just a hint, if you need to drop a sway bar, take the bolts out, do like your going to take it off, and flip it upside down, it gives you more room to play with,,, trust me, i got 10 inchs of lift and i still stock hooked up the sway bar ( not anymore, but it was there)

yea, the stock sway bar goes at and angle with the frame, then curves down to meet the links, take the bar off, and flip it, and it will go at an angle oposit the frame ( at a down ward angle) and then curv to the axle, now, you have to force the links together, but it still matches up, just the little washers that hold the gromets to the sway bar, will be uneven... thats all
