Default Bad update.

Well, after doing a spark test, I'm not pretty much convinced it's the cat, least I'm convinced up to the point of cutting the bugger off. Problem is nothing is simple, specially on the '94 ram when they decided to make the cat vertical so there is not a way to cut the second exhaust pipe off.

I have a hack saw, and a jig saw. Jig saw I know is a no go. The hack saw will work for the bottom pipe but not a chance on the top one. Anyone have any suggestions?

Can you disconnect the y pipe from the manifolds, then work it on the ground?

Maybe, I would need new gaskets if I did that though. And with the rust condition the poor manifold is in it might come apart in my hands. At the very least the billion and a half bolts will be corroded bad.

Think I'm going to get a sawzall, that will cut through it like butter. I think I can reach the top pipe with one too.

Now we have problems. Managed to get my hands on a sawzall, cut the top exhaust pipes off in front of the converter. Went to crank the truck, not happening. One bank sounds like it's missing bad, not sure which one.

Going to do a cylinder pressure test. Sounds like the timing is off majorly, but spark was good, which means absolutely nothing. Need to find someone with a code reader. Though, I think the only code coming up is for the O2 sensor now.

God, with the exhaust off she sounded like a beast cranking. Too bad she did not start, I've missed the sound of a beefy engine.

I didnt think the 94 had a post cat o2? If it didnt, You'd think it wouldnt be effected at all by the cat being cut off..(no cel) Except it will run better if the cat was clogged.

Hope you get it running right! Are you going to put a peice of pipe there where the Cat used to be? Who are you going to get to weld it? I cant find anyone to weld mine if i do it. Let me know cause im around the area you are alot.

BTW, Are you interrested in having a meet around panama city FL? I thought about posting up a thread and seeing if anyone is interrested. Cause ive seen plenty of poeple on here around this area.

IMO it sounds like the fuel pump

now you say you cant keep it going...does that mean it is starting up for a few seconds?

I'm beginning to think it is the fuel pump. A week or two before it died my fuel gauge quit on me completely. It wants to crank bad, you can hear it almost turning over, but it's not getting there.

Gonna do a fuel test when I do a cylinder test. Or maybe just skip the cylinder test, the things getting compression, you can hear it. I did noticed when I checked the spark plugs they were dry as a bone. Just chalked it up to it not being run in awhile.

If it is the fuel pump then I have problem. Lowering that thing is going to be a pain, unless I pull the bed off.

Don't forget that you can take that cat to a recycling place and get about $150 for it. Don't just junk it if you are going to just junk it let me know I will take it off your hands.

If it ends up being the fuel pump I'll just going to reattach it, only cut two of the pipes off. So it's still connected, and would only need a few clamps and some extra tubing.

I don't want to sound like a smart tail but have you made sure you have enough gas in the tank?
