Acceleration problems
So my Ram 1500 is having a throttle/acceleration problems. Just recently, it won't accelerate smoothly. When I step on the gas, the RPMs rise, then stick, then rise, then stick. Does anyone know what could be causing this problem?
Ya, I just replaced the TPS, because the TCC kept locking and unlocking while driving, and I was hoping that would be a cheap fix for the problem. Now the engine won't accelerate smooth, and it has lost power since I bought it used a little over a year ago.
If the lock/unlocking problem is solved, but you're losing power/acceleration, you may have a failed catalytic converter, especially if its been getting worse over time. I'd take a look at that. If its glowing hot after a nice drive, time to get it replaced.
You can also get it checked at an exhaust shop. If you do need a new one, don't get a stock replacement. Get a Magnaflow high-flow unit.

I'll look into that. I was going to point to the exhaust next because when I do accelerate hard, there's a popping or backfire coming from the exhaust it sounds like. I put on straight pipes, and wanted to replace the cat eventually anyways. I do know it needs a new OD solenoid, because that completely shuts off on drives over 25 miles on the HW, I'm just hoping I don't need a new TCC too. Too costly.
