front axle seals
so i looked under my truck and saw that the lower knuckle where the ball joints are (drivers side) was covered in oil and leaking onto the ground, so i bet its an axle seal. what kinda work is involved in fixing this? somethign i can do myself? thanks guys
Go by that article and you can get it done in a day.
Start on a Saturday in case you hit a snag and have to work through Sunday.
Buy a 1 11/16" 3/4" drive socket, a 3/4" breaker bar, a 3-4 foot piece of pipe for the end of the breaker bar and some penetrating fluid before you start (WD-40 and PB Blaster aren't penetrating fluids).

I just finished both seals this weekend. I found a bad hub bearing and both shafts on the passenger side were bad. The PO or mechanic did not put the plastic bushing in the end of the axle shaft and it hogged it out and runined both shafts. Cost me alot of $$$ for those. I also found a bad u-joint so replaced them both. Hopefully everything you have is still in good shape.
I also broke my 9/16" 1/2 in drive socket on the three bolts that hold the hub on, so used my 14mm 1/2 drive. I used quad 4x4's seal installer kit. It was very easy to put in the bushing and seals with it, if your using a socket to put them in I'd buy extras in case you get it in crooked. My carrier also pretty much fell out indicating worn bearings. You will have to take it out to replace the seal on the drivers side.

if anyone has an opportunity to get good pictures and how-to for the bushing/bearings that are at the CAD, it would be a nice addition. i don't think we've got any info on that.
to the original poster. if you've driven through water lately, or refilled/overfilled your diff, that can cause oil leakage. mine starting leaking after some deep water driving, and when i drained the oil to check on things it had a lot of water in it, which elevated the oil level. after draining and refilling, mine leaked a little for a couple of weeks until the oil level dropped a little. it does that every time i fill it all the way up to the fill plug. if i leave it an inch low, it doesn't leak any. i know my seals are a little bad, but i'm too lazy to change them.

Sounds like your ready 95! I soaked the hub and spline for a few days with liquid wrench , then put plenty of anti sieze when I put them back on. You can see the picture of the CAD with only with intermediate shaft and the collar in it, and a picture of both shafts. You can see how the left shaft "nub" is worn down to a cone shape and the inside of the right shaft is hogged out also. There is a plastic bushing that goes into the right end shaft.
I had wheel hop fairly bad but I think it was a bad u joint. Even with new joints I still have a bit of hop when cranking the wheel all the way.
There are seals that go on the end of the shaft to prevent junk getting into the axle tube. One came on my new axel so I have to order one for the other side.
