I developed an axle seal leak on my drivers side last year a couple months after I had the axle out. I let it leak for a few weeks checking the fluid every couple days. It finally got to the point where it stopped. The fluid was a little low but not in any danger to the gears. A month or so after that I topped it off with Lucas and haven't had a problem since. I can't say it will work for you, but atleast you have the easier side to do if you have to change seals.

both of mine were leaking for about 6 months, went off-roading with it, underwater, a bunch of stuff, now im replacing the seals...and to tell you the truth its not a hard job, only problem i have had is taking out the carrier in the front diff, which i managed to do tonight....other than that its pretty easy...Get a nice big breaker bar though, it makes things go so much quicker...I had the entire front end ripped apart in an hour and a half (brakes, axle shafts, cad housing/shaft, wheel bearings, driver tie rod end, and diff cover.)

When i replaced the ball joint and had the axle out WITHOUT draining the pumpkin first some fluid leaked into the axle tube between inner and outer seals. For the next 1000 miles fluid was dripping from the outer seal/ball joint and flung about the wheel well. I asked a mechanic to change the inner seal and he said to wait to see if it stops "leaking" first as it may not be the inner seal. He was right - 1000 miles later no more leaking, pumpkin is still full of fluid.
Might be your problem given you just did u-joint work.
