Default off road rims and 17 inch tire questions...

found three off road rims ,one has some curb damage, and even found a fourth from a different source at a great price, but 17 inch tire selection seems to be pretty crappy. They seem to be more expensive and mostly lt rated which I dont really need.Should I upgrade to the 17's just for aesthetics,or stick with a common 16 inch tire combo.Other than looks,17's dont seem to offer much advantage, but they do look money. What do you guys do for tires? The 16's are almost 60$ cheaper per tire,in some cases $100.I'm open for suggestions. Thanks

I think that 17'' wheels have a better selection of tires, as more new cars and trucks are coming from the factory with 17''+ wheels.

You need a LT tire. These trucks would overload a P rated tire. Plus you wouldnt be able to put anything in the bed.

I just did this upgrade am so happy I did. Sure 17" are a bit more spendy than 16"s, but the way I looked at it was some of the $$ went towards preventive maintenance and some $$ went towards a small lift. Old tires were about 31"s and new ones are 33". I calculated 1 1/2" of lift with this upgrade

I told the dealerships that I wanted mine taken off another truck or I wasn't going to buy this one, and that was before I even knew that these wheels were exclusive to the off road editions.
They're 8" wide and have 5 1/2" backspacing which is nice compared to the stock 16" rims, and they just look so much better.
Here's a blue quad cab with them on it for comparison purposes.

I just got another off road rim off ebay for a spare tire.

If you want an entire set then you should call these guys, http://www.mintonmotorsinc.com/index.html they have a set and will only sell them as a set.
