Problem engaging 4x4
I dit a little bit of search but didn't find exactly what I'm searching for and my english suck, so...
I know were supposed to be able to engage the 4x4 while running but, even when I'm releasing the gas pedal, It does a grinding sound (like when someone trying to shift without clutch), I even try at full stop, in Neutral or Park, and it does the same grinding sound. Once engaged , the 4x4 work great.
Also, in N or P, it sometimes does a small vibration, especially when cold
Thanks and sorry for my english

is the grinding coming from the transfer case, or from the CAD (axle disconnect on passenger side of front axle tube).
its important to understand the shifting process...
assuming your t-case is in proper working order, you SHOULD be able to shift between 2-HI and 4-HI while in Drive, Reverse, or Neutral, or Park;including when moving, up to max speed of 50 mph. However, if your t-case syncronizers are bad, then you should try your shift in neutral, or park, or at very low speed, like 1-2 mph. or OFF.
now - to shift from 2-HI to 4-LOW, there are no synchronizers, so you must be in neutral, or park, or at very low speed, like 1-2-3 mph. or OFF. its also critical that you shift from 2 HI to 4 LOW in one very hard, very fast motion. do NOT pause in neutral. if you do, then your stuck, and you'll have to turn the truck OFF to finish the shift.
Try these different patterns, if none work, try turning the truck OFF for all shifts. that should eliminate the grinding.
Hopes this helps.

how about the 4 HI to 2 LO in Drive, 1mph, hard/fast/no pause shift ?
if you haven't checked/changed/filled the fluid you could try that. it has a couple of plugs on the back side for drain and fill. most are recessed 10mm hex. about any ATF fluid is acceptable but the best is ATF+4, same as the auto trans.
if that doesn't help, you likely have an internal problem.

Ive always shifted my truck when in neutral stopped. I had a problem when i first bought it with the vaccum lines, but after i fixed that it engages/disengages perfect, and it has 200450 miles on it.
