Default 94 Front axles disengaging

Alright guys im new here and this is my first dodge of any sorts. Actually its my first 4x4 also, I have been lookin for a 4x4 for a while now and a buddy calls me and asks if i want to b uy his 94 1500 ram longbed for 700.00 I say sure why not it will be a fun toy.

anyway He hardly used the 4x4 the last year and half he owned it. I went out the other day to mess around with it. when you engage the transfer case you can tell it gears the rear diff way down, but the front tires wont pull there weight. Ocassionally it will kick in on the front.

Also the 4x4 dash light flickers on and off when ya hit bumps and the transfer is engaged. which makes me think of a loos connection or something.

Everything i have read is leadin to the CAD on the front axle, which i play on checking for vacuum and such. But my question is all the scenarios i seen the cad be the problem the 4x4 was not engaging the front tires at all. Mine will at times(not for very long tho)

Any help would be awesome. Im excited to get this running and go have fun with it.

Also i forgot to mention yesterday when i was playin with it (before i read anything on the cad operation) I got down and the "shift motor" that the vacuum line connect to, Is it suppose to rotate freely in the position its suppose to be in?

Mine you can turn 1/2 turn either left or right.

Lots of people do have that problem, and that's the best troubleshooting guide. You are going to have to check everything like he article states. And the motor turning is no big deal.
