Rear Brake sticking... Ebrake or Caliper???
Hi all,
My rear pass side brake is sticking on my '04 2500. It is noticable when driving, and causes a pretty bad odor & obviously heats up. I took the rotor off yesterday & needed some persuasion (read hammer) to loosen it, which is not unusual from past brake changes. Not sure if the Ebrake assembly is causing the problem, or the caliper itself. one of the pistons seemed to be sticking when putting it back together (I usually use a bar clamp to compress pistons to reassemble).
Normaly I'd just replace the caliper & be done with it, but Lately I've noticed that when I release my e-brake it doesn't always come up all the way resulting in the light being stuck on - I usually have to put my foot under the pedal & Pull the release lever again...
Anybody have similar issues? If it's Ebrake, where to look? the cable is attached to a lever on the inside of the drum & it was fairly loose & still moving pretty well.
Thanks in advance!

This is a 2nd gen forum. If your truck is an 04, its 3rd gen, and may be why no one has answered. I don't know anything about those trucks, but can you remove e-brake lever or take cable off lever (at wheel, not in cab). If the problem is still there when you drive, it is most likely the brake caliper sticking, or it could be the rubber brake line on that side is collapsed. I would guess caliper, being the truck would be too new for the lines to collapse (generally). If you replace one, I'd replace the one on the other side as well, as the increased fluid pressure caused by the new one on one side could cause problems in the old one if you leave it on the other side. Again, I don't know anything specifically to an 04. My 98 has drums in the rear, assuming yours has disks.
