Default Plenum replacement, Death flash, I am a little confused

I am waiting for PurpleDodge to post his writeup on the plenum replacement so I can do mine. I don't think mine is bad (83k miles) and oil pressure and accelleration seem fine but I want to take care of it before it's an issue.

My question is how does the Death Flash fit in to this whole equation? Is this something I do after the replacement or is it a symptom of the need to replace the plenum gasket?

Thanks

The death flash is a hack job fix that Dodge tried to use to put a bandaid on the problem rather than acutally fix the plenum issue. They just reflashed the computer to change the ignition timing so that a bad plenum wouldn't cause the engine to knock or ping, but the side effect was a serious lack of power.

If your computer is labled as having the death flash, you should get the computer reflashed back to how it should be or even get a performance tuner.

You should pull your air cleaner off and look down you throttle body with a light to see if you have a blown plenum. If you see oil it's gone. The fact that you only have 83K on it and you haven't fixed it means it's most likely gone. You just don't know it yet. The Death flash adjusted the timing to make up for all the oil the engine was burning while the engines were still under warranty (ie cheap fix). I hope this helps you.

How would I figure out if mine has been reflashed?

Look under your hood for the sticker that says something about a pcm flash or recall or something...mine is above the radiator on the support, others have said its on their PCM.

Ok, that makes sense. I have had the software flash per the label that I found on the firewall. The engine I have is SUPER clean and has been very well maintained. I don't know if I am "low" on power because the Magnum V8 360 is the biggest engine I have had in a vehicle. Looking forward to PurpleDodges write up, No pressure though.

I am all about DIY but machining my own parts is well past my abilities.

Looking forward to your writeup.

So assuming the PCM has been flashed, does it cause a lose of power even if the plenum is fine?
