Default Dodge Shifter

I'm new to this site, but I have a problem with erratic shifting with my 2000 Dodge 1500 truck. It has a 5.9 engine, not sure what auto trans it has. it doesn't want to shift up unless I start out in first, shift to neutral then back to drive, then it will shift to second. I have to do the same thing to get it from second to third, then after that it shifts up normal the rest of the way. It has no problem down shifting, and doesn't slip, so I'm thinking the trannys still sound. Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated.

Not mean to burst your bubble, but the RAMs hav weak trannys. If you make it to 150K on a stock tranny you're lucky....Hope you have been changing the fluid and filter every 15-20K

Hows the fluid level? How does it smell....Check when running in neutral....checking the level in park will not give you an accurate reading...

And if you have towed, your most likely going to need a new tranny....rebuild yours its the best way to go, because if you get one from a junkyard it could go anytime.

Everything looks and smells o.k. Just changed all that about 10,000 miles ago. Have read about governor pressure solenoid or governor transducer sensor possibly being bad. Any thoughts on that?

the governor pressure solenoid is where i would start with, they are famous for giving out. Also check the internal wire harness, when the plastic connections crack tranny fluid will get into the wires and play weird tricks. While you got your pan off change the filter in there too.
