Default Tire question

The tires on my RAM are 265/70/17

Tire newb right here. What are the details of the sizes listed above?

265 = Height??? (Inches????) About 25 Inches tall
70 = Width????? (Inches????) About 12 Inches wide
17 = Rim Size???? (Inches????) 17 Inches

I want bigger tires. I want 33 or 35 inch tires. What are the sizes on 33/35 inch tires? What are my options? I want to keep my existing rims so, I need to find tires that will fit a 17 rim......... Sound about right? Hope im not too confusing.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Nope, you're backwards.

265= Width at widest point of the cross-section measured in millimiters. IE, the bulge of the sidewall
70 = Aspect Ratio, this is the height of the sidewall as a percentage of the cross-sectional width
17 = Rim diameter measured in inches

The aspect ratio gives you your sidewall height, since you have two sidewalls, you multiply that by 2 and add your rim diameter to get your total height. Your inquired tire size is shown in the example below.

Using a conversion factor of 25.4mm = 1 inch-

265 / 25.4 = 10.43" wide
10.43 * 0.70 = 7.30" sidewalls
(7.30 *2) + 17 = 31.61" tall

you can go to this web site and play around with it to see what size of tire you'l like. plus it will tell you how your speedometer will be off if you compare to tire sizes

I have 305-70r16 on Eagle Alloys but the truck also has a I 3" lift I can post pics if you want but I know it's not what your looking for. I like the look of the wide tires a lot is there a reason you don't want wide tires?
