A bead goes along the front and rear gaskets that go on the block (the rubber ones), and then put a good amount in the corners where the intake manifold meets the heads.

I thought it just went on each end of the intake end seals where they contact the heads. That's where I put it and it isn't leaking.
Ultra black works just fine.

Thanks Silver Dodge and Sherrif I guess if they both work it does not matter, But I like the idea of putting a bead along the whole surface, do I apply it to the underside of the front and rear gasket where it meets the block or do I apply on the block first? I assume just a thin coat? also how clean does the mounting surfaces block and intake have to be? I used a sharp razor blade on both and then wiped both of them with a rag and acetone, but you can still see the black and grey from the old gasket it is like it is impregmented on them both also the both look a little pitted as well. Thanks in advance

I didnt bother with the rubber pieces front n rear this time on mine. Just a generous bead of RTV only. Last couple 408s my buddy built he didnt use the rubber & it sealed just fine with the RTV so I thought Id try as well. I gave the final torque the following day to allow the RTV to set up.

For the plenum it depends on what gasket you are using. For the metal gasket, DO NOT use any sealant on it. Some people run the FEL-Pro gasket and put a little Utra Black or Ultra Copper on it.

I just put a little RTV on the backside of the intake gaskets (the ones on the head) to help hold them in while I put the manifold back in. I put a little bead along the end gaskets.

i put a thin coat on both sides of the front/rear rubber gaskets to hold them in place, and a generous dab at the corners.
