I posted a question along these lines in a different thread. Lately I've been wondering about a solution that would do this. It seems to me getting the cat hot enough and providing some oxygen would clean it out. I've got some ideas and I may give something along these lines a try.
My plenum was in bad shape for for a while but is fixed now. I'm exhaust pipe has a lot of carbon on it some I'm sure the cat isn't pretty. It will be a lot of work but I can pull the cat, take some pictures, re-install it and run my concoction, take the cat back out and see how it looks.
Is anybody willing to do the same thing but run the Kool-it Cat Cleaner and Deodorizer and comepare results? It looks like the Kool-it it stuff is pretty cheap ($12 for two cans, most need both cans).

ah, so get the cat hot and pump in oxygen. I will take my O2 tank for my torch and put it in the before cat O2 sensor hole and just flow some straight O2 in there to clean er out.

I will be sure to take pics and post a DIY

Maybe try compressed air. Unburned fuel, catalyst designed to burn unburned fuel, straight O2 and 600 degrees could result in an early fireworks show.
If you are serious, PM me.
