Water Pump / Fan Clutch Question
Ok so today i notced a pretty loud whistle sound comming from the motor. My first thoughts were intake or vacuum line...Upon going under the hood i heard the sound comming from the pulleys.
I wiggled my fan clutch (with belt on) and it had some decent play. It seems like the shaft that goes into the water pump is loose. and thats what made the wiggle. Also noticed a slight coolant leak comming from the top left corner of the water pump.
My fan clutch and water pump are brand new. Not remans, or used but new from carquest, and they have 8K on both.
How could these have gone so quickly? Also on my build sheet it sys i have Heavy Duty Cooling System, does that mean i could have possibly gotten the parts for a stock cooling system, and the heavy duty are different parts?
Any help woud be great. Thanks
SIDE QUESTION:
Im working on a 94 Nissan D21 4x4 2.4L KA24E motor. (My buddies truck, the one in my mudding videos) I was replaing the clutch slave cylinder and noticed the spring on the clutch fork (that go to throwout bearing) had popped out. Then i shined a flashlight into the bellhousing, and found the throwout bearing is popped out of the clutch and just free sitting there. Now can i somehow pop that back in or does that mean bad throwout bearing, and i should just replace the clutch.
Thanks

by the way, my temp stays right at 195 like always, doesnt move at all and my heat is fine, i have hot air still comming out....should i worry about it? the Maxima is off the road for the time being and my truck is my only vehicle right now...and i cant afford for it to break down when im out somewhere...
I can also hear my cat rattling a bit....my exhaust ends right after the cat right now lol....so it wont be hard to gut it....but is there a way to gut it without taking it off? how hard is it to break up the rest of the honeycomb? i have a long prybar i can get to the honeycomb with...

here's what i know. the bearing in the water pump pulley is a needle bearing, which should handle the lateral load of the belt just fine, and remain tight. i only know this because when mine went out, it sort of seized up/jerked apart and spit needles out all over the ground. i just did this - rotated the tensioner pulley inwards to relax belt pressure, and turned the water pump by hand. knock on wood mine is smooth and snug after about 30K. no wobble. my fan has a slight amount of wiggle/rock to it, but i think that's normal. it has the normal resistance to turning and doesn't free wheel. if your water pump pulley is rocking, that's not right, and its prematurely worn out.
if you don't have a muffler to worry about clogging up, then you can bust out the cat guts fairly easily and just let them blow out. i'd remove the 02 sensors first so you don't damage them, and then just beat it out with a hammer and pry bar. its very hard, but brittle ceramic type material, so it takes some doing. don't do what someone did - which was drive a pipe straight into the center of it about 2 feet in. they were expecting it to just crumble and fall out, but it didn't and they got the pipe stuck in the cat. no personal experience with it on the truck, but i think if you hammer/twist, hammer/twist, it'll break out.
does it sound like the dry roar/squeal of a dry bearing ? i don't think its good either... should be no wobble.
it sounds like a whistle like a leaking intake but its comming right from the water pump/fan clutch area.

I don't have much experience with clutch fans but I think I know what you are talking about. This happened with my Dad's Dakota but it also leaked. From what i've been told, they aren't suppose to make that noise. Making that whistle\whine noise means its wearing out. Maybe someone will correct me on this.
yea its leaking, i called carquest and they looked up my name and i have still over 2 years on my warentee (3 year warentee)...and i guess i didnt get the fan clutch from them....im trying to find out where i got that so i can warentee it as well......guess its not too bad because i plan on doing my timing chain anyways
