2001 ram 2500 tranny question
I just bought a 2001 ram 2500 with a 360 V8. I only pulled my camper one time (5000 LBS) , when I realized if you run it hard the tranny will not shift untill you let off gas. it actually will hit the rev limiter before shifting. I called the dealership and they replaced the filter-valve body, transduce-pressure sensor, Gasket transmission solenoid, Solenoid transmission governor and one other Gasket. It acted fine for a few days, then today started again...Anyone have any ideas what else could be wrong with this tranny? I love the truck but I am getting very frustrated. Any insight would be great.
Welcome to DF.
Not sure whats wrong, but if the $tealership did the work, I'd take it right back to them and tell them its doing the exact same thing it was before, and that they need to fix it as they obviously didn't fix it the first time. Something isn't working right.

thanks for the reply jasonW...I am still under my 60 day warranty with them so it is all on them right now. I am just trying to have some idea of why it is happening. My last 97 dodge ram 1500 had 233,000 on it when I sold it and had no issue at all with tranny. This is all new to me.
With or without a load if you give it more than 3/4 pedal it will not shift into 2nd gear from first. i will go to redline. I noticed this while trying to merge into traffic on the interstate. If you are in 1st gear and floor it, it will not shift the majority of the time untill you let off gas. The rest of the gears seem fine, but then its hard to get that kindo of RPM in the later gears.
Yes...they did replace valve body. i talked to dealership yesterday, they are banking that the the governor is acting up. I am pretty happy that I bought a 5 year tranny and motor warranty right now.

You truck doesnt have a governor in the transmission. It sounds to me like they didnt do squat, just cleaned a few parts up and put some new fluid in it. Seems like they pulled the governor pressure solenoid and sensor off, cleaned them and put them back on hence it acts ok for a few days.
the governor pressure sensor is the culprit, it is a horrible excuse for a solenoid. and it has been giving these transmissions a bad rap for years.

Thanks for the insight MonteC...I hope they realize I am not going away untill it is done right. Maybe this time they will make sure it is completley fixed before giving it back. i am hauling camper to Tennesse in three weeks for ATV trip. I am sure I will find out in the hills if it is fixed or not.
