Default Need 2001 ram info asap !!!!

I am thinking of buying a 01 ram 4x4 5.2 with 64k on it for 7800. The truck is it great shape I was wondering if these trucks have any problems, what the mpg is, and do cold air intakes help the mpg ?

Welcome to DF.

You can pretty much answer all those questions by using the search function at the top of the page, they are all frequently asked.

If its got an auto tranny, make sure that thing shifts flawlessly, otherwise pass on the entire deal.
MPG varies depending on tires, gear ratio, tranny (manual or auto), and state of the engine (recent tune up? Plenum plate/gasket fixed? Etc.) You could get as bad as 10 MPG in town/highway, if the truck needs a tune-up, etc. or has massive tires with 3.55 (not very good) gearing. It may also get as high as 18 MPG on the highway if its in really good shape and the things I mentioned before are taken care of.

CAIs may net you 1-2 MPG at best.

Those are greatly reduced summaries, I advise you to use the search function to learn loads more.

I have a 2001 5.2 4x4 quad cab, 50,000 miles, I added a K/N drop in filter and flowmaster muffler, I get about 16 highway mpg those two things helped. I never checked city mpg.

That sounds like a great price. I paid 10K for my 2001. it was leather and fully loaded with a chrome grilleguard and chrome rock sliders.

7800 sounds like a fair price. When looking up the price, you should be able to get your vehicle for somewhere around the TRADE IN price. 15-20% over the trade in price is a pretty good deal, and not being overly communistic.

unless theres other features you havent mentioned, i would try to work on the price.. it seems a little steep... 2 years ago, i bought my 01 4X4 with less miles than that, the tranny had just been freshly rebuilt and all kinds of stuff for only the mid 6k range.....

as far as mpgs my trucks mpgs SUCK..i get 9mpgs in the city, but like most on here say, if your looking for mpgs, dont look at a truck... but if your dead set on it and want "better mpgs" theres always the edelbrock airgap itll replace a most likely blown plenum gasket (which hurts mpgs) and will im prove it significantly but its $600 ALSO look into a hypertech programmer. the max energy i got rid of netted me 2-3 mpgs more. they also sell one that strictly for mpg increase that would be better id imagine...

as far as snow, if you have good tires it helps, but a long bed will have less weight in the back which will effect the traction... i have a rear lsd and this past winter i had not so good tires and it still did pretty well

i have an 01 4x4 with 5.2 and auto tranny i got it at 73k for 7000. love the truck but the milage is crappy, i get 12.5 at best but usually 11. i have mud tires on it and its great in snow even in 2x4. it also has a $300 cold air intake and it helps but not much maybe .5mpg and 5ish HP. but if you have stock tire size your milage will be a lot better

Better MPG: In least cost to most
1. Use a round air filter (look up FIPK no more in DIY)
2. Get aftermarket injectors with 4 holes in them:
Use these if you plan on doing mods like Hughes F1 airgap, 1.7RRs, SCT tune, exhaust

If you do not plan on doing any mods but the exhaust, get these:

3. MSD ignition and aftermarket coil

i got 16 city MPG with my 1996 5.2L with the above mods using the 24# injectors listed first (and Mopar 92 octane PCM)

these are the current fuel injectors you have: single hole
