Default CAD cast steel or cast iron?

I want to weld to the central axle disconnect but I'm not sure yet if it is steel or cast iron.
Does anybody know, or has anybody welded to this section?

Welcome To Dodge Forum!

Its Aluminum, I'm pretty sure. Stick a magnet on it....

Why the hell would you want to weld it? Its removable for a reason.

Purpl I believe he's talking about the housing.
Which when I drilled and tapped it last fall it appeared to be Cast Iron.

Alternatives:

- Posi-lok permanent CAD engagment
http://tal4x4.com/prod_purchase.php?kid=1424&gid=-1

- Cable Operated
http://tal4x4.com/prod_purchase.php?kid=1422&gid=-1

Posi-lok's website has a little more information, but tal4x4.com is the cheapest I've seen it. There's also a replacement passenger side axle, without the CAD, but I don't have the link available at the moment.

Yup, the housing is what I'm talking about, not the cover. I'm using the axle for another build and want to attach a 3rd link mount to the cover if possible (steel).
I'm not going to bother if it's cast iron.
