Want to buy a dodge ram 1500 but engine issue...
Im thinking of buying a 1994 Dodge Ram 1500 but it has an engine problem with it. Im usually pretty good at engines and ive seen my fair share of problems, but I cant seem to figure this one out and have never come by it. The engine idles fine starts right up, but when you give it gas and start goin you can tell that its lacking a little bit of power, aside from the fact that its a V6 lol
but when revving it up and taking off every couple of times one of the cylinders will POP!, not to bad, but enough for me to notice. Is all I can think of is maybe a loose timing chain?? But maybe one of the heads are ruin? There was also alot of rust as though something was leakin on the left side of the frame near the head, and the pulley near there was also rusted out. So maybe it had a head gasket leak and then overheated and warped some of the valves??
Also its got about 130,000 Miles on it. If that helps any, if you guys need anymore information let me know. No rod knocks, no bearing ticks.

Doubt the heads are bad because it would do it all the time not just in driving conditions. Sounds like you might have a clogged cat, really sounds like it considering you're saying you have some poping going on and that could be caused by a clogged cat. Causes major back pressure. Run the truck and get down by the muffler and see if you can feel a free flow of exhaust coming out. Most of time you'll feel a small amount of exhaust coming out and it will be hot as hell.
Really? Thats it? Thats sounds to easy haha. IT was just one cylinder that sounded like it was popping, sounded like it was just coming from one area in the engine. But I dont know I could be wrong. That would make sense to be a plugged cat though. Plus yah I guess it would be more consistent with valve issues.
What kind of pricing can I expect from a cat for these things?

I could be wrong but 250-300 seems like it would be a typical price for one, but most of us just cut them off or completely gut them. Depending on if you live in an inspections state or not.

Because if you're going to waste your time replacing a stock cat with another OEM replacement then by all means do so but i dont even throw the price out for one like that. High flow cat or no cat at all
