Default Won't idle in park

I have a '87 Ram D150 with a '97 Ram 1500 5.2L eng. with fuel injection and a A-998 3 speed auto trans from a full size van. The problem just started a few days ago, when its warmed up, it will not idle in Park, or start in park, the engine will turn over and kick a few times, but not start, it will start in Neutral, Ive checked the safty switch and its fine.On a seperate note, the rebuilt trans slips and I think its because of the tourqe converter, could this cause the no start problem.

update: truck now is hard to start even in neutral, it stalls when i'm coming to a stop, i've rebuilt the trans and put in a new tourqe converter, and I still have all the same problems. I also still have a problem with the trans slipping when I'm over half throttle or if it downshifts, any help would be great.

The stalling and not starting sound like a fuel supply problem to me.

I have tried the shift linkage and t.v. cable adjustment. the engine will turn over when i turn the key, so its not the nuetral safty switch (or improper linkage adjustment) the engine spins a few times and somtimes i will hear it try to kick and start, but it sounds like the timing is over advanced. when it kicks, it stops turning over for a split second like it tries to fire backwards. if i put it in nuetral, it will start up fine, is there something in the colume shifter that affects this?

I do want to test the fuel pressure sometime, but when I have had fuel problems with other cars, it would start but not rev up very high, this truck revs up great and runs strong when i do get it started.

I can't say for sure if the IAC is good or not, the eng. was just rebuilt and everything is new or super clean (IAC is clean). when the truck is idleing I can hear the air rushing into the IAC at different rates to keep the truck running smooth, but I don't know what its doing upon startup. Would it act differently when the truck is in Park or Neutral?

Could this just be a case of having a bad engine comp.?
