Default looking to buy a 98 360 Q&A

hi im new to the site my names brad iv been looking at a few trucks thought id come here and ask a few questions

first of i went and looked at a 98 ram 2500 with a 360 gas motor
the truck has 170k on really clean, has some service records,
recent tune up runs good new exhaust from the manifolds back,
everything checks out but the gear box leaks

heres my questions hes asking 4200 for it, is it worth it with that many miles on it?
the gear box will have to be fixed idk what the price tag on that will be?
what should i worry about with a high milage vehicle like this?

just so you no i am mechanically inclined to where i can change my oil, plugs wires, u joints, bolt on stuff, and if a parts making a funny noise i could figure it out.. stuff like that

i dont have to buy this truck but it is in my price range, so i thought id ask people who have been around them, any input would be appreciated thanks

first off welcome to the forum, find out if the plenum gasket has been changed on this truck before you buy it. if your unsure about what that is do a search on the top of the page about the subject. you will learn alot. the gearbox leak is somethign i wouldnt worry about when buying it. its a simple bolt on appliance that can be changed for not a ton a money. that seems like a decent price for the truck as long as the body is in decent shape. if its not, talk him down a bit
