tranny and interior help
i have a 1996 dodge ram 2500 4x4 with a 5.9L (360 c.i) and a 46RE trans and i have had some problems with it and want to fix up the truck but i am not sure what to do about the trans should i rebuild it or swap it out with a different one and i was wanting to change the color of my interor its a light tan at the moment and i want a darker color should i just paint it or swap it out as well or any other sugestions would be greatfull thanks

hi. can u send a copy of the manual for the 46re tranny to my email. it is hbkb4@aol.com. thank you. i need it asap cause i have a dodge ram 2500 2001 that does not wanna shift outta 1st n when i changed filter n fluid, there was a piece in pan that looks like it clips onto something at one end n on other end, it pushes something. only thing that was in pan. was no metal or nothing n no damage. how can i make my own posting? i cant figure out where to go

By now you probably know what has happened but I'll post this anyway. That clip you describe sounds like what happened to mine (01 - 5.9 with the same transmission).
There is a big "c" clip that is known break that will keep the transmission from shifting out of 1st into second gear. Nothing is wrong with the transmission, but it has to be taken apart to fix this. Now, you CAN make it shift from 1st to third but it's hard on the engine, as the rpm's have to be fast enough to let it go into that gear.
I'm not an expert on this transmission, this is what a shop told me. They showed me a diagram and where the clip goes. It only cost me 2 grand to get this fixed. I would say you are about as well off rebuilding the whole thing if it has to be taken that far down to fix this part.

I see you have a four wheel drive. I still think that is what may be wrong. My truck had 130,000 miles on it when this happened. Funny, I heard it snap while I was backing out of my driveway at about 3 mph. As I said, it was a common problem according to that shop.
