440 Magnum Upgrade!
Im just gathering info. and opinions from people who know more about this than I do before I start tossing around money. I wanna take a look at all the procedures and mods I will have to undergo if I do buy the engine.

Your right the classic charger is a mean mothaf*****. But just the time and money I would need to completely restore that car is out of my league. I will try to post some pics when I take another trip to look at the car.
Ok, quick reminder, don't double or in your case, triple post like that. It's sore on the eyes. You have an edit button that you can use to add/remove portions of your posts....
Now, not one aspect of this swap will be cheap. Count on paying a premium if you can't fab your own parts such as motor mounts. Basically, you will have to go through and rework the entire truck from front bumper to rear bumper to make this work, and work the way it was meant to.
I have heard of people doing this swap, and it is still around, but good luck finding actual pictures on the net with a walk through or hinting at anything. You have the space in the engine bay, and that's a good start.

dang 400? i paied 250 for my 440 and 727. your prolly gonna want to pull it apart, mine had bad detonation and blew holes in 3 pistons. also these motors got starved for oil in the #4 main, so you might have blueing or scoring. seeing its a charger motor, it had a harder life than lets say a motorhome motor, being it was driven all the time.
it would be a bad *** build for sure. ive contemplated it myself. they made a 4x4 727, thats what your gonna have to find. fab up some mounts, and a trans mount. a local driveline shop can make you a custom driveshaft for not very much.
good luck! id love to see it when its done

4 Wheel Offroad did it to a Dakota http://www.4wheeloffroad.com/project...ine/index.html

My truck is just a 2wd and so far the mods seem pretty major. You are also right about taking it apart, and checking around the inside.
The 440s run carb but Ive heard about replaceing the carb with fuel injection. Does anybody know about that?

I'm sure it could be done with the right intake, but here again, why would you want to? It would have to be computer controlled, and you wont be able to use the PCM that you have now. You would be talking major money to do it that way for little to no purpose. Yes, it might be better, but you'll shoot yourself in the foot if you decide to do some other bolt ons later down the road.
My advice to you at this point is buy the motor and the transmission and just store it somewhere; hand cranking it every 6 months or so to keep it from freezing up and what not.

doing this kind of swap will take some cash out of your pocket.. ive been thinking of doing the same thing with my 01.. so heres my advice there is nothing wrong with going with fuel injection its way better then going carb, youll have no more cold starts. you wont have to worry about killing your motor at certain inclines and its alot easier to tune when you upgrade certain stuff.. also that 9 3/4 is a better solid rear end so you wont have to worry about replacing the guts till you get some real power going with the big block.. your fuel pump is fine only thing youll really need to do is get a fuel pressure regulator and gauges for it.. dong forget to run return lines or youll burn that pump up.. motor mounts will be kinda tricky if you dont have any fabbing skills.. the real work your going to have to do is read up on everything your puter does for your truck once you yank that motor out and put the other in it wont fire and your truck will act all sorts of retarded since it wont have any of the sensors up..
gere, you may have a point, but I'm looking at it from the stance that once he gets this motor in the truck, he will then probably start adding power adders into the mix, and the 9 1/4 axle wont take the abuse. I can shred my axle in a day if I want to on the 318 motor that I have. It's all in the eye of the beholder I guess. If things go the way I foresee, I'll be needing a 70 dana or a ford axle. Not quite sure at the moment.
Last thing I worry about on my Dakota is locker equiped 9.25.
My 98 Ram has a Dana 60...Maybe I need a 440
