Default Derale Tranny cooling pan (Pics)

Here is the derale tranny cooling pan I got. Comes with a magnetic drain pug and bung for a temp sensor.

Cost 139.00 from PACT (plus 18 dollars shipping) and adds about 2-3 more quarts capacity. By far the chepest pan, and it includes those turbolator cooling tubes. Supposed to cool tranny fluid 20-40 degrees.

now that I think of it, i should have posted a pic of the shiny new Transfer case the dealership installed under warranty :P

Anyway, i used a mix of ATFs:

4 quarts of lucas semi synthetic
6 quarts of valvoline ATF4 synthetic
2 quarts of Castrol ATF 4 synthetic

I had to buy the damn ATF three times because so much fluid drained out of the pan. My driveway is slightly on an incline, so when it was sitting for 5 days waiting for the pan to come in, about 3 extra quarts drained out of the tranny. Synthetic ATF is expensive when you buy 12 quarts!!!!

Thanks for posting pics... I've been thinking about ordering one up from summit. It looks like the same one (http://www.summitracing.com/parts/DER-14210/).

Do you have a tranny temp gauge? Notice any lower temps?

Thanks,
Cartman

yeah, that is the one. Didn't know they sold that. Also, Even if I had a tranny temp gauge, I would not notice any new temps because there is no tranny temp gauge STOCK. Only a light that goes on when it is overheating.

that wouldn't be a good place to put one anyway...thats not where the tranny fluid is the hottest. by the time it gets back to the pan, its already cooled off.

It's not so much about knowing where the hottest place to put it. It's about knowing what the temp range should be where you put it:

Quoted from MonteC:

Hot side 180-210

Cold side 150-180

i burned up a trans using a derail pan .
the tras shop said that the combo (deep pan with a shallow filter because of the tubes ) let the fluid uncover the filter.
this was in a 05 pontiac gto,and i drag race .
if you just drive normal on the road it should be fine .but if you do any type of off roading on steep angles it could be a problem
