Default My truck started acting up transmission?CatConverter?

Ok so I have a 1997 Ram 2500 auto tranny. So I came to work yesterday everything was fine truck drove GREAT. So I leave work everything is fine until I hit the freeway truck starts off fine and then all of a sudden I noticed I have the pedal all the way to the floor and im only doing 45mph and the tac is over 3k. So I let off and then it was ok. So I come to a stop and when I go to take off I notice the truck isnt as lous as it was earlier its quiter and SOMETIMES I will have to let off of the gas in order for it to shift into gears and sometimes it will shift fine into gears that is whats leading me to its the transmission. BUT also after driving it I get a cat converter smell so im really confused on this. Whats your guys opinion? The truck has 117,xxx miles on it

Check transmission fluid, if it looks good then take out pre cat O2 sensor and take it for a spin, this will allow the pressure to be relieved and rule out cat, you will get a CEL while doing this, also do you have a CEL now

ok well talked to a tech here at work and he seems to think it may be a fuelpump/filter issue since he said if you had it flored and you were slowing down it was starving itself of fuel. But this still concers me as to why my truck isnt as loud as it was im just confused on this all.... If I go up a hill it will slow way down and wont gain speed until I hit the bottom of the hill or go down a hill.

The fuel pump is a possibility, but I wouldn't jump to it right away. Do what readheadhunter said. If it gets a little better when you have the pre-cat sensor out of its hole, you have a plugged cat. No matter how much fuel you give it, if the exhaust can't escape, you aren't going to be going anywhere very quickly.

Does it just lose power, does it makes any noises, does it have a hop, and is it surging at all. Has it thrown a code at any time during all of this if it has and there is a local parts store like autozone they can read codes as long as you havent cleared them

Check the TPS,when mine was shot,I thought it was the tranny.I had high revs with no speed, wouldn't shift into OD and occasoinal stalling.Like new after changing the TPS.Easy fix and took me 10 mins and cost $30.
